PAUL AND CLAUDIA DOFFING

Paul and I are long time friends. We went to the same high school and, as fate would have it, we both worked at the St. Paul Post Office.

We were the first ETs on tour 3 - the afternoon shift. (In the Postal Service jargon, ET is an acronym for Electronic Technician. We were not space aliens.) The ET position was a newly created position due to the Postal Service's advancement into the automation phase, which consisted of computerized mail processing equipment.

Since all of this was new, we were all inexperienced on the complex equipment, and there was no one to turn to for help. We were all alone. It was Paul's brilliance on the computers and his sense of humor that kept me sane. My only problem was that I had to put up with the rage of a certain supervisor (whose name I will not mention) that Paul kept riled up.

Below are some photos he has sent me.

OUR LITTLE LIZARDS

Probably one of the most common creatures in Florida. They're all over the place! They are not dangerous and eat tons of insects. Some people are frightened by them, but most think they're cute.

The photos were taken through the window screen.

The squirrel population in The Villages is quit large. And of course, they occasionally get squashed by a car, or a golf car. Fortunately, we don't have to go through the mess of picking, or scraping, them up.

Another common creature in Florida is the Turkey Vulture, which is always on the lookout for these kinds of messes and cleans them up for us.

Recently, we had the pleasure(?) of watching a vulture enjoy his meal right under one of our front windows.

These photos were also taken through the window screen.
